Volunteer Firefighter Position
In addition to full-time firefighters, the Yucca Fire Department also employs volunteer Firefighters. Volunteer Firefighters are part-time employees that augment the Fire and emergency rescue services for the community. The program is much like an internship, while the community benefits from the extra help they provide, firefighting, rescue, emergency medical services, the intern obtains the experience, education, and training to help prepare them for a full-time career in the fire service. A Volunteer Firefighter that brings the education and experience of a fire academy will be rewarded with the opportunity to be involved in technical training and eligible to earn valuable certifications to add to their resume. The department does its best to recruit and maintain a minimum of one to two volunteer Firefighters per day. The necessary amount of personnel needed to staff our apparatus and rescue.
The primary duty of the Volunteer Firefighters is to assist the Certified Firefighters on duty to meet NFPA standards and customer service to the Yucca Community as well as assist in firefighting and rescue efforts. Under general supervision of the Shift Captain / Engineer / Senior Firefighter, responds to emergency calls for assistance from the public and participates in fire suppression, emergency medical treatment, rescue, hazardous material incident mitigation and special operations; and performs related duties as assigned... The Volunteer will receive the training; responsibility and exposure to insure a well-rounded entry level resume moving forward in his or her career after satisfactorily completing the requirements of the program. Fire Volunteer work one 24-hour shift per week, and work under the direction of the YFD SOP's and the on-duty supervisor. One of the requirements upon initial employment is that they are a Fire Academy Graduate (NFPA 1001 equivalent). Volunteer that is assigned to the Engine Company respond on all calls and assists full-time personnel. During an emergency medical aid, may assist by performing such tasks as: taking vital signs, assisting with CPR, giving the patient oxygen, etc.; if obtaining the correct EMS certifications.
Other duties include: Assisting with cleaning and maintaining the station and equipment, working alongside of full-time personnel with fire inspections, assist with fire education and station tours, help with cooking duties, and any special project or studies they wish to accomplish during down-time.
- At least 18 years of age
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Must posses a valid Driver’s License
- AZ State Firefighter Certification -or- Fire Academy Graduate (NFPA 1001 equivalent)
- AZ State EMT or CEP Certification
- Background Check
- 39 Month MVD printout
